Our Lady of Peace to Host Free Seminar on Adolescent Mental Health

Lexington, Ky. (November 3, 2016) — How do you know when to get help for a child that is struggling? When is it time to get professional help for a child who is anxious, depressed or angry? What are some red flags that you should be aware of as a parent? These are all questions that Our Lady of Peace, part of KentuckyOne Health, plans to answer for parents during a free seminar series entitled, “Adolescent Mental Health.”

The free seminar will take place on Tuesday, November 15 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Henry Clay High School, located at 2100 Fontaine Road in Lexington; and Thursday, November 17 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Lafayette High School, located at 401 Reed Lane in Lexington.

Mia Perry, a licensed clinical social worker with Our Lady of Peace, will lead these free seminars in Lexington to help parents, grandparents, teachers or other community members who may have questions about adolescent mental health.

During the seminars, attendees will gain knowledge about common diagnoses for adolescent mental health, as well as signs to look for to help determine if something is worrying or bothering a child.

The seminar is part of the 2016 Peace for Parents educational series. Through the program, Our Lady of Peace experts host educational seminars to help parents, grandparents, teachers, counselors and others who want to learn more about how to face challenging issues with children and adolescents.

“Mental health is not just an issue that affects adults, but it can also affect young children and teenagers as well,” said Jennifer Nolan, president, Out Lady of Peace. “This seminar will help give adults the tools and information they need to manage challenges that may arise with children, and also educate them on how to get the proper help for teenagers who may be dealing with mental health issues.”

Interested individuals are encouraged to register in advance. Registration is free and can be done by calling Lisa Prewitt at 502.432.2011 or by emailing [email protected].
