Frazier Rehab Institute continues to be a recognized leader in providing world-class, comprehensive acute rehab care. Long recognized for Therapeutic Recreation services provided to the inpatients, Frazier Rehab began organizing the Adapted Sports Program for those in the community with disabilities over a decade ago.
The Program’s Vision
The ultimate vision and goal of the Adapted Sports Program at Frazier Rehab Institute is to improve the quality of life of the individuals with disabilities and offer healthier lifestyle choices for these individuals and their families. Frazier Rehab Institute has created a greater awareness of, and generated education in, the prevention of health complications and illnesses such as: obesity, diabetes, stress and other health related concerns. These conditions are often associated with physical disabilities though the Adapted Sports Program.

The Future of Adaptive Sports
Frazier Rehab Institute continues to expand community outreach efforts aimed at providing recreation and athletic programs for individuals with disabilities and related conditions. Future opportunities may include programs aimed at health, fitness and wellness as well as fun opportunities for both the individual with a disability and their families. Frazier aspires to provide on-going training for professionals working with individuals with physical disabilities and related conditions, in the areas of rehab, community outreach, prevention, research and technology.
The Adaptive Sports and Recreation Program Partnerships
Frazier Rehab Institute is a leader in providing adaptive sports programming for this community. Frazier Rehab is able to offer such programs because of the dedication from our partners which include but are not limited to:
Louisville Metro Parks-Adapted Leisure Activities Program – This partnership provides Frazier Rehab the use of their facilities and staff for a variety of program options.
University of Louisville- This partnership offers the use of facilities, as well as student volunteers to staff the programs.
Jefferson County Public Schools - This partnership provides program information and offerings to students. They also offer education in the area of disability awareness and prevention as well as the use of their facilities for program participation.
BlazeSports America is a national organization and partner that provides sports and fitness programs to those with physical disabilities.
The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committees. This partnership provides Frazier Rehab with an extended outreach program that assists with identifying and developing children and adults with disabilities in sports and recreational activities. Additionally, it assists in providing parents and coaches with skill sets and equipment to support their children’s involvement in a more active lifestyle. It also promotes excellence in the lives of all persons with disabilities.
